Yin Yoga
Supine/Reclined
and seated, mostly non-weight bearing postures, are held longer giving time for the connective
tissues around the joints to soften and stretch. Soothing and calming ,
this sequence of poses particularly focuses on the hips and hamstrings.
This physical focus and mental focus on stillness allows prana, chi,
the life force to move freely through the entire body and helps loosen
the mind’s resistance to stillness. Can you be still? Don't
worry...there are still awesome tunes.
The two major differences between a Yin and a Yang yoga practice are
that Yin postures should be done with the muscles relaxed and should be
held a long time. This is because connective tissue does not stretch
like muscle and will not respond well to brief stresses.
Hatha or Yang Yoga
Hatha yoga means “sun
and moon.”The principle followed in the study of Hatha Yoga is that of balancing
the two complementary energies that affect all life on earth including
human. Perfect health is seen as a result of this balance. A similar
principle is seen to be contained in the Chinese symbolism of Yang
/Yin, by which the harmony of natural forces in the universe is
maintained. A simple study of the characteristics confirms the validity
of this principle regarding human nature.
In Yin Yoga
We don't use our bodies to get into a pose
We use the pose to get into our bodies
Restorative
This practice is designed to restore the
nervous system and help release deeply held tensions within the body.
We use props to support the postures and focus on breathing, while
gently stretching and strengthening the body. This class is appropriate
for students of all levels. Yin is a great accompany to Restorative.
